Greater Accra RCC Reschedules Ada East DCE Confirmation Vote

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has announced a rescheduling of the confirmation vote for the President’s nominee for the Ada East District Chief Executive (DCE) position. The second round of voting is now set for Wednesday, May 14, 2025.

In a statement signed by Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, the RCC indicated that the initial vote, held on May 8, 2025, did not yield the required two-thirds majority for the nominee, Mr. Kenneth Kabu Kanor. Out of the total votes cast, Mr. Kanor received 24 ‘Yes’ votes, 14 ‘No’ votes, and one rejected ballot, falling short of the 26 votes needed for confirmation.

The RCC cited Section 15(5) of the Model Standing Orders for District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Assemblies, which permits a second ballot when a nominee fails to secure the necessary majority in the first round.

The upcoming vote will take place at the Ada East District Assembly Hall. The RCC encourages all assembly members to participate fully in the process to ensure effective local governance.

This development underscores the importance of consensus-building in local administrative appointments and the need for collaborative efforts to advance the district’s development agenda.
