Kumasi Technical University Deepens Research Capacity with High-Impact Grantsmanship Training
The School of Business at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has successfully held the second phase of its Grantsmanship Training Programme, marking a significant step in strengthening research capacity and external funding readiness among faculty members.
The two-day intensive training, which took place on 16th and 17th December 2025 at the Forestry Commission Training Centre, brought together academic staff from various departments for a highly practical, collaborative, and results-oriented learning experience.

Hands-On, Practical, and Impact-Driven
Unlike conventional workshops, this session emphasized practical grant proposal development. Participants were required to attend with laptops and clearly defined research topics, enabling them to work in real time on fundable project ideas.
Academic staff who had subscribed to departmental research groupings worked in thematic teams, with each group focusing on developing a single, well-structured grant proposal. Dedicated seating arrangements at the venue facilitated focused group engagement, peer review, and mentorship-driven discussions.
Strengthening a Research-Driven University Agenda
The training aligns with KsTU’s broader strategic goal of building a strong research culture capable of attracting competitive grants for institutional development, innovation, and national impact.
By the end of the programme, participants had:
- Refined research topics into grant-ready concepts
- Improved understanding of donor expectations and proposal structure
- Strengthened collaborative research networks across departments
- Enhanced confidence in competing for local and international research funding
Excellent Logistics and Participation
The programme was well coordinated, with transportation provided for participants via a university bus that departed at 8:30am daily. Sessions began promptly at 9:30am, and participants were well catered for with snacks and lunch, allowing full concentration throughout the training.

Positive Feedback from Participants
Participants described the training as timely, practical, and transformational, noting that the hands-on approach demystified grant writing and positioned them to pursue funding opportunities more strategically.
“This training has shifted our mindset from writing academic papers to developing fundable, impact-driven research proposals,” one participant remarked.
Looking Ahead
The success of the Grantsmanship Training reinforces the School of Business’ commitment to research excellence, innovation, and staff development. It is expected that outputs from this programme will translate into increased grant submissions, funded projects, and enhanced visibility for Kumasi Technical University on the global research stage.
