Asantehene Concludes Mediation Talks Between Kusaasi and Mamprusi, to Present Report to President Mahama

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is expected to brief the President in the coming days on the outcome of the long-standing mediation efforts between the Kusaasi and Mamprusi factions. This follows the completion of a major dialogue session held on Monday at the Manhyia Palace.

The meeting ended on a positive note, prompting moments of jubilation among members of both groups who expressed relief and renewed hope for lasting peace. The discussions are viewed as a significant step in the national effort to resolve the Bawku disturbances.

However, brief tensions were reported outside the Palace when a member of the Mamprusi group, who was celebrating, allegedly hit a vehicle belonging to the opposing side. Security personnel intervened quickly to restore calm.

President John Mahama had mandated Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to lead the mediation process aimed at fostering peace, reconciliation, and mutual understanding between the two factions. The Asantehene, noted for his extensive experience in high-level peace negotiations, is reported to have guided the talks with firmness and neutrality.

Sources close to the mediation indicate that the Asantehene will soon submit a detailed report on the outcome of the engagements. The Presidency is expected to announce the next steps after receiving the report.
